CASTINE, Maine — The Husson University Eagles surged to an early lead and improved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the North Atlantic Conference with a 91-70 men’s basketball win over the Maine Maritime Academy Mariners Saturday.
Trevon Butler paced Husson with 24 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Raheem Anderson added 14 points and four rebounds while Jacob Moore chipped in with 11 points, four rebounds and three assists.
Brian Goda sparked the Mariners (1-5, 0-2) with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Tyler Thayer added 15 points and Nick Holt netted 10 points and had six rebounds.
CMCC 91, UMM 88
At Auburn on Sunday , four Josh Thomas free throws in the final minutes and some defensive stops helped Central Maine Community College hold off UMaine-Machias.
Xavier Colbert paced CMCC (9-5) with 20 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Carrington Miller chipped in with 19 points and nine rebounds.
Dreu Johnson paced UMM (4-7) with 18 points and seven assists. Floyd Higgins and Dave Kalmbach each added 14 points with Higgins grabbing nine rebounds. Ivory Sneed contributed 11 points and Tyler Rubin had 10.
UM-Farmington 80, Lyndon State 75
At Lyndon Center, Vermont, on Saturday, Lyndon State rallied from a 13-point second-half deficit to beat UMaine-Farmington.
Pet Sumner powered the Beavers with 18 points, three steals, and three assists. Uriah Forest-Bulley scored 15 points and grabbed six rebounds.
WCSU 81, Southern Maine 65
At Danbury, Connecticut, on Saturday, Bobby Bynum scored 19 points to lead five players in double-figures as the Western Connecticut State University Colonials defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies.
Tony Seldon added 15 points on 6-for-7 shooting for WCSU (5-0, 1-0 Little East).
Four players scored in double-digits for the Huskies (2-4, 0-1) led by 12 points from sophomore Zach Leal. He also had four rebounds and three assists. Cole Libby added 11 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Fred Knight and Jalen Lincoln each tossed in 10 points.
Colby 61, Bowdoin 48
At Brunswick on Saturday, Colby defeated Bowdoin for the first time since January of 2010.The Mules snapped an eight-game losing streak to Bowdoin and improved to 6-3 and Bowdoin slipped to 4-3.
Ryan Jann led three Colby players in double figures with 14 points while Chris Hudnut added 10 points and 10 rebounds. Luke Westman pitched in 10 points, four assists and four steals for the Mules.
Bowdoin also had a trio in double digits, led by 12 points and 12 rebounds from John Swords. Lucas Hausman also had a dozen points while Keegan Pieri posted 11 points and seven boards.
Fisher 68, UMFK 64
At Boston on Saturday, Fisher overcame a nine-point halftime deficit and shot 57 percent in the second half to beat UMaine-Fort Kent.
Fisher’s offense started to click and UMFK went cold from the floor in the second half. UMFK would lead by as much as 12 on a Jake Rioux 3-pointer with 13:52 to go, but it was all Falcons from there as they outscored UMFK 30-14 the rest of the way.
UMFK was led by Joe McCloskey’s game highs of 20 points and 14 rebounds. Qaadir Ali added 11 points and 7 assists.
Fisher was led by Tylar Shular’s 18. Orlando Zayas had 11 and was followed by Ira Haywood’s 10.
SMCC 90, UMM 77
At South Portland, Southern Maine Community College shot 52.8 percent from the floor to earn the win over the University of Maine-Machias.
Tyheem Simon and Jack Tolan each scored 15 points to lead SMCC.
Ivory Sneed paced the Clippers with 24 points.
Women’s Basketball
UM-Farmington 62, Lyndon State 59
At Lyndon Center, Vermont, on Saturday, Elizabeth Ferry hit two free throws and Bianca Stoutamyer hit one in the final minute to help UMaine-Farmington secure the win.
Elizabeth Ferry led with UMF (3-4 overall, 3-0 NAC) with 13 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Meghan Smith added 12 points and grabbed six rebounds.
Husson 68, Maine Maritime 61
At Castine on Saturday, Chandler Guerrette recorded 19 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals to propel the Eagles of Bangor by the Mariners.
Katy Brochu chipped in with 14 points and 11 rebounds for Husson (2-2, 2-0 NAC). Stephanie Comstock and Kelsea Bouchard each added 11 points and Victoria McIntyre put in 10.
Maggie McConkey sparked MMA (1-4, 0-3) with 15 points, five rebounds and three assists. Mary Bradeen added 14 points, nine rebounds, three assists and three steals while Kristi Willey had 10 points and eight rebounds.
Norwich 65, UMFK 48
At Northfield, Vermont, on Saturday, Aliah Curry recorded 25 and five assists, earning MVP honors in the Ed Hockebury Classic, while lead Norwich by UMaine-Fort Kent in the title game.
Kelsey Lotti added eight points for Norwich (7-1).
Ericka Saucier sparked UMFK (3-4) with 13 points and All-Tourney selection Jasmin Rowland finished with nine points and 10 rebounds.
Bowdoin 56, Colby 48
At Waterville on Saturday, Bowdoin dominated the boards and Megan Phelps finished with 16 points and eight rebounds to help the Polar Bears give Colby its first loss of the year.
Bowdoin moved to 6-2 overall, while the Mules dropped to 7-1.
Colby forced 24 Polar Bear turnovers in the game, but Bowdoin had a big 43-24 margin in rebounding.
Sara Binkhorst added 15 points for Bowdoin.
Carylanne Wolfington led Colby with 15 points and made three 3-point shots in the second half. Mia Diplock and Caitlyn Nolan both scored nine points..
USM 52, WCSU 40
At Danbury, Connecticut, on Saturday, Rebecca Knight had 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead three players in double figures as the University of Southern Maine Huskies opened their Little East Conference with a win over Western Connecticut State University.
Megan Pelletier chipped in with 10 points and 12 rebounds for USM (4-3, 1-0 LEC). Stephanie Gallagher added 10 points and Ella Ramomas added eight points and seven rebounds.
Caroline Brasa sparked WCSU (5-2, 0-1) with 11 points and nine rebounds.
SMCC 112,UMM 35
At South Portland on Saturday, Katy Cyr recorded 18 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals to help Southern Maine Community College roll by UMaine-Machias.
Alicia Hoyt chipped in with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Frankie Couture paced UMM with nine points.
CMCC 100, UMM 40
At Auburn on Sunday, Gabby Foy scored 21 points and Briana Grant added 15 to help Central Maine Community College roll by UMaine-Machias.
CMCC (8-3) led at the half 41-24 and outscored UMM 59-16 in the second half.
Shannon Garland paced UMM (1-7) with eight points and Meagan Cope and Brooklynne Lewis each put in seven.
St. Joseph’s 77, UMFK 47
At Standish on Sunday, Morgan Cahill scored 18 points to help St. Joseph’s beat UMaine-Fort Kent.
Brianne Maloney chipped in with 10 points for St. Joe’s (6-2), which led at halftime 39-21.
Bobbi Myles paced UMFK (3-5) with 17 points.
