BANGOR, Maine — A Dexter man pleaded guilty to robbing a Rite Aid pharmacy in Guilford during a hearing Tuesday in U.S. District Court, U.S. Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II announced in a news release.

Court records show that Michael Thompson, 27, went into the drugstore on March 10, 2012, jumped over the pharmacy counter, brandished a large hunting knife and demanded narcotics, Delahanty said.

A pharmacist opened the locker containing narcotics and Thompson filled his backpack with more than $500 worth of drugs, Delahanty said.

Thompson faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 for the felony robbery. He will be sentenced after the completion of a presentence investigation report by the U.S. Probation Office.

The investigation that led to the robbery was conducted by the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Office, Maine State Police, Federal Bureau of Investigation and Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, Delahanty said.
