White Sox land Samardzija, Robertson
SAN DIEGO — Jeff Samardzija is coming home after a brief detour to the West Coast as the Chicago White Sox keep adding to their roster and the Oakland Athletics keep subtracting.
In a deal consummated late Monday night and officially announced Tuesday morning, the White Sox acquired Samardzija from the Chicago White Sox for right-hander Chris Bassit, catcher Josh Phegley and infielder Marcus Semien.
The teams also exchanged minor leaguers with right-hander Michael Ynoa going to the White Sox and infielder Rangel Ravelo to the Athletics.
Samardzija returns to his native Chicagoland area — he was born in Merrillville, Ind., was a star wide receiver at Notre Dame and spent seven seasons with the Cubs — to pitch for the team he rooted for while growing up. Despite a stellar 2.99 ERA in a combined 33 starts last season with the Athletics and Cubs, his record was just 7-13.

Ducks sign G Bryzagalov, lose Perry for 3-4 weeks
The Anaheim Ducks signed goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov to a one-year contract through the end of this season and also announced Tuesday that forward Corey Perry will miss three to four weeks with a knee injury.
The Orange County Register reported that the deal with Bryzgalov is worth $2.88 million.
The 34-year-old began his NHL career with the Ducks in 2001-02 and played on their 2007 Stanley Cup championship team.
