BANGOR, Maine — A mix of snow, rain and freezing rain cut power to thousands of Maine power customers but fell far short of the damage brought by two early-season snowstorms, which each caused tens of thousands of outages.

As of 3 p.m. Wednesday, more than 2,800 customers statewide were without power. Emera Maine reported 1,030 customers without electricity, including 846 in Hancock County

According to CMP’s website, more than 1,800 of its customers did not have electrical service, with the bulk of those — 1,432 — coming in Cumberland County.

The National Weather Service’s Caribou forecast center said freezing rain was falling in some northern communities early Wednesday, but like the most of the state is expected to change over to rain as the day progresses.

The only areas expected to see snow are the western mountains, according to the weather service.

Winter storm warnings remain in effect for northern Franklin, Oxford and central Somerset counties, along with northern Somerset, Piscataquis, Penobscot and southeast Aroostook counties.

Southern Oxford and Franklin counties were under a winter weather advisory Wednesday morning, but those were lifted by Wednesday afternoon, according to the weather service. Coastal flooding is also possible, with coastal Hancock and Washington counties under a flood watch.
