WELLS, Maine — An early morning fire heavily damaged the Wells transfer station’s main building on Willie Hill Road on Sunday, though workers say they will find a way to reopen on Tuesday.
The fire was called in about 3 a.m. Sunday. No one was at the transfer station at the time. No one was injured, and the state fire marshal’s office has been called in to help with the investigation.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
Firefighters said one of the problems they faced in dealing with the blaze was the multiple combustible materials at the transfer station.
