CARIBOU, Maine — Fresh snow is expected to fall in northern portions of the state Wednesday into Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service’s Caribou office has posted a winter storm watch for Aroostook, northern Somerset and northern Piscataquis counties.

Those areas could see 6 to 10 inches of snow, according to the weather service. The highest accumulation is expected in far northwestern communities.

The winter storm watch is expected to take effect on Wednesday morning and last through Thursday afternoon, according to the weather service.

Other areas of the state are forecast to receive rain Wednesday.
