VASSALBORO, Maine — A throng of prospective police officers will officially earn their badges on Friday, as the Maine Criminal Justice Academy will hold commencement ceremonies.
Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland said 56 new officers will graduate at the 10 a.m. ceremony.
The new officers have spent 18 weeks studying and training at the academy, and will come from local, county and state ranks, McCausland said.
Some of the new officers will begin patrol assignments immediately, in time for Christmas week and New Year’s Eve.
