True. It’s the day before Christmas. The family is beginning to gather together. The children are home from school. things are heating up for a visit from Santa Claus. It’s the perfect time for an impromptu star ornament making session.

Materials needed:

• Construction paper, scrapbooking paper, magazine covers or other paper that happens to be around, such as manila folders or envelopes. Use your imagination.

• Thread in red, green, gold or colors of your choice. Or use narrow ribbon, string, yarn or other lightweight cord.

• Tape.

Tools needed:

• Pencil.

• Scissors.

• Gluestick.

Draw a star shape on a piece of copy paper. It can have as many points as you like. The one I made has six. Don’t strive for perfection. Let it be what it wants to be. Or trace around a star-shaped cookie cutter, if you prefer.

Cut out the star. Place it on the paper of your choice and trace around it. Cut out the star. Trace around a bottle cap or other small circular item and cut out those shapes.

Cut a length of the thread, ribbon, string, yarn or other cord, and tape one end to the reverse side of the star. Wrap the thread around the star three or four times. Tape the end to the reverse side. Cut any excess thread.

Apply gluestick to one of the circles and paste it over the spot where the thread ends are taped.

Cut another length of cord, slip it beneath one of the “spokes” of the thread wrapped around the star. Tie it securely. Tie the ends together to create a hanger for the ornament.

Write your name and the year it was made on the back of the ornament.

Have fun.

Merry Christmas!!
