SACO, Maine — There will be no school on Friday at Thornton Academy after a bomb threat forced an evacuation on Thursday.

Students won’t be back at school until January, because school vacation starts next week.

State police surrounded the school Thursday morning after the headmaster said someone made a threatening phone call. Around 9:15 a.m. investigators decided to lock down all Saco schools and evacuate Thornton Academy. Police sent all 1,600 students home.

Only Thornton Academy will be closed on Friday. It will reopen January 5th.
