ORLAND, Maine — A local man was arrested Sunday night as drug agents seized heroin at a Gilpin Road residence.

Gorham Clifton is facing a charge of trafficking in Schedule W drugs after 72 grams of heroin with a value of $10,000 were seized, according to MDEA Commander Peter Arno.

In addition to Clifton’s arrest, Naomi Thomas, 25, who was living at the residence with Clifton, was summoned on the same charge but not arrested, according to Arno.

On Sunday night, MDEA agents, assisted by state police, Hancock County sheriff’s deputies and Ellsworth police, executed a search warrant after an investigation into distribution of heroin by Clifton out of the residence, Arno said.

The investigation has included the undercover purchase of drugs from Clifton, Arno said.

Clifton was taken to the Hancock County Jail and bail was set at $5,000, Arno said. The charges could be elevated to aggravated due to the weight of the drugs seized.
