Taxes for artists talk

BANGOR — The city of Bangor’s Commission on Cultural Development will host a workshop on self-employment taxes and tax issues 6-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, in the Story Room of the Bangor Public Library.

Tax accountants Hilary Clark and Lily Dalton of Edwards, Faust and Smith Certified Public Accountants will facilitate the workshop. Clark and Dalton, who are accountants, will address tax guidelines and issues artists may face, which will be followed by a question-and-answer session.

Art Explorations

BANGOR — The University of Maine Museum of Art announced that it will host Art Explorations

3:45-4:45 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, Jan. 20-March 5, at the museum. The workshop is geared for children in third and sixth grades

Museum Educator Eva Wagner and workshop leader will encourage creativity and self-expression through fun, engaging art projects. Children will explore the museum galleries for inspiration and create their own art work in the studio. They will investigate a variety of methods and materials.

The cost is $55 museum members, $65 others. A $10 sibling discount also is offered.

Winter Art Camp

BANGOR — The University of Maine Museum of Art announced that it will hold its February Vacation Winter Art Camp Monday through Friday, Feb. 16-20, for children in children in third The camp will offer fun gallery games, activities and creative art projects.

Art work in the galleries will be a springboard for learning as participants draw, paint, sculpt and learn basic printmaking techniques. Participants will visit with a professional artist and have an art show and reception for family and friends on Friday.

Very Best of Celtic Thunder

ORONO — Former “Glee” star Damian McGinty will be the guest artist for the Very Best of Celtic Thunder show at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, at the Collins Center for the Arts at the University of Maine.

McGinty will join Celtic Thunder performers Colm Keegan, Keith Harkin, Ryan Kelly, Emmett O’Hanlon and Neil Byrne for the nostalgic Irish music show, which includes dramatic lighting, choreography and the group’s signature sound. At the CCA, backed by the Celtic Thunder Band, Celtic Thunder will deliver ensemble songs, as well as anthems, fan favorites and solos on a stage transformed into an ancient stone Celtic pathway.
