BREWER, Maine — The longtime local barber struck early Saturday morning while crossing North Main Street remained Thursday at Eastern Maine Medical Center in critical condition, according to a nursing supervisor at the hospital.
David Grant, 73, of Brewer was hit about 6:30 a.m. Saturday while crossing the street near his barbershop, located at 96 North Main St., according to Brewer police.
Grant was struck by a 2005 Chevy Cobalt driven by Maria Mann, 42, of Bucksport, Jason Moffitt, deputy chief of the Brewer Police Department, said late Tuesday.
Moffitt said the results of the investigation and accident reconstruction, which is ongoing, would be turned over to the Penobscot County district attorney’s office. It would be up to prosecutors to determine if charges would be filed.
It was the second time in a year that Grant has been struck crossing the street in the same location, Moffitt said. His earlier injuries were not as serious as those he suffered Saturday.
