THOMASTON, Maine — A police dog was credited with collaring a man accused of stealing nearly $1,000 worth of goods from Wal-Mart on Friday evening.

Gunner, with handler Knox County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Jeremy Joslyn, tracked the suspect before finding him hiding under a trailer off Thomaston Street. Louis Rubino, 33, of Thomaston was arrested and charged with theft by Thomaston police Officer Olaf Sigaud.

According to police, Rubino walked out of the store shortly before 7:30 p.m. with the items and was at his car when he was approached by a store security officer. The suspect ran from the parking lot and into the woods behind Wal-Mart. Joslyn was called to bring Gunner.

During the lengthy search, police reportedly found clothing in a field that Rubino may have been wearing before they found him under the trailer.

Rubino remained at the Knox County Jail in Rockland on Saturday morning.
