BANGOR, Maine — A local man is facing a robbery charge after allegedly attempting to leave Walmart with a laptop computer without paying on Friday, police said.

Police were called to the Stillwater Avenue department store at 2:30 p.m. when it was reported Daimon Clark, 35, had allegedly assaulted an employee and fled the store on foot, according to Bangor police Sgt. Tim Cotton.

According to video surveillance taken from the store, Clark was confronted after attempting to leave with the laptop, upon which he punched the store employee in the head and fled on foot, according to Cotton.

Police searched the area around Walmart but could not find Clark, but he was spotted leaving a hiding spot near Blue Seal, according to Cotton.

Clark attempted to flee but was taken into custody in the parking lot of Day’s Jewelers, the sergeant said.

Clark was charged with robbery and violating conditions of release and brought to Penobscot County Jail. A court date has not been set.
