BANGOR, Maine — Downtown Countdown, Bangor’s New Year’s Eve celebration, will have events for revelers of all ages.

The celebration will start with a visit to Information Central, located at Epic Sports, 6 Central St., for a map, cup of hot chocolate and popcorn, and the $5 Downtown Countdown button which will allow the wearer to get specials and discounts in January.

Hop on the “Countdown Connector,” a free shuttle provided by Eastern Maine Community College, which will pick up and drop off event-goers throughout downtown Bangor from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Events, which also can be found at countdownbangor.com, are free unless otherwise noted:

— Maine Discovery Museum, 74 Main St., noon-8 p.m.: Face painting, hat and noisemaker creation, snacks and a multi-language countdown for children.

— University of Maine Museum of Art, 40 Harlow St., 6-8 p.m.: Family-friendly activities, including making a crown or tiara.

— West Market Square, 7:45 p.m.-midnight: Central Maine Fire Twirlers demonstration, followed by music by The Trendy Robots with a mash-up of country, classic rock and pop favorites. Broad Street will be closed. Dancing in the streets.

— Organ recital 8-9 p.m., St. John’s Episcopal Church,225 French St.

— ImprovAcadia comedy at The Rock & Art Shop, 36 Central St., 8:30-11 p.m. Half-hour performances at 8:30, 9:30 and 10:30 p.m.

— Hollywood Casino, 500 Main St., 9 p.m., live entertainment featuring Motor Booty Affair, celebrity impersonators, food and more.

— Bangor Symphony Orchestra’s Juniper Quartet at Central Gallery, 89 Central St., 9-10:45 p.m.

— RetroRockerz at the Union Street Brick Church, 126 Union St., 8-11:30 p.m.

— Juke Rockets blues band at Bagel Central, 33 Central St., 8-11:30 p.m.

— Penobscot Theatre Company, 131 Main St., 5-8 p.m. Performances of “Legends: The Music of Judy Garland” at 5 and 8 p.m. Tickets are $30 for subscribers and $35 for the general public. To purchase tickets or for details, call the box office at 942-3333 or go online at www.penobscottheatre.org.

— Beach ball, wrapped in holiday lights, dropping from the top of Paddy Murphy’s in West Market Square at midnight.

The parking garage will be open from 7 a.m. Dec. 31, 2014, until 7 a.m. New Year’s Day, Jan. 1, 2015.
