LAKE WALES, Florida — Victoria McIntyre scored 25 points and Samira Cruz recorded a double-double to lead the Husson University Eagles to an 85-73 women’s basketball victory over the Warner Southern Royals Wednesday.

Cruz finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds to help the Eagles improve to 4-4. She also had 4 assists. Stephanie Comstock chipped in with 14 points and 6 rebounds while Katy Brochu added 11 points and 5 rebounds. Husson had a 47-41 rebounding edge.

Kelsie Richards contributed 10 points for the Eagles, who started the game with a 10-1 scoring surge and posted a 41-32 halftime lead. Warner Southern cut Husson’s lead to 44-41 early in the second half, but the Eagles responded with a 7-0 run to secure the win.

Leilani Tuani-Fifita paced Warner Southern (3-5) with 13 points while Hannah Kotzen and Mariah Williams each added 11.

Bates 80, Clark 57

At Brunswick, senior captain Molly Brown scored a game-high 27 points to lead Bates by Clark University on day two of the Coastal Maine Classic at Bowdoin College.

Bates is now 7-4 and Clark is 3-7.

Brown connected on 9-of-15 shots from the field, including 4-of-7 3-pointers, to finish with 27 points while also adding six rebounds, four steals, three assists and two blocks.

Sophomore captain Allie Coppola contributed her second double-double in as many days, and her fifth this season, with 15 points and 12 rebounds, to go with three steals. Junior Chelsea Nason scored 13 points with six rebounds and four assists for the Bobcats.

Sam O’Gara scored 17 points while adding four steals and three assists to pace the Cougars. Aretha Sullivan kept her team close with 10 opening half points and finished with 15 for the contest.

Brown scored 21 of her 27 points in an explosive first half as the Bobcats used a late surge to take a 42-29 lead at halftime.

Bowdoin 63, MIT 45

At Brunswick, tournament MVP Shannon Brady scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Bowdoin by MIT to claim the 2014 Coastal Maine Classic crown.

Bowdoin is now 9-2 and MIT is 5-6.

Marle Curle was selected to the All-Classic team for Bowdoin along with MIT’s Maya Ramachandran.

Brady connected on 10 of her 17 shots from the field and grabbed five offensive boards while earning two steals and a block. Curle finished with 15 while Sara Binkhorst added 11 and six assists. Kate Kerrigan tallied six points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Ramachandran had a team-high 14 points and 10 rebounds for MIT.

Bowdoin scored the first five points of the game and never trailed in the opening period.

Men’s Basketball

Babson 72, Colby 65

At Babson Park, Massachusetts, Babson went on a 26-6 scoring surge over an eight-minute period early in the second half to pull away for the win after Colby had taken a six-point halftime lead.

Joey Flannery paced 17th-ranked Babson (9-1) with 24 points, including a 12-for-13 effort from the foul line. John Wickey finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Point guard Luke Westman shot 7-for-8 from the field to lead Colby (6-4) with 18 points and added 5 assists. Chris Hudnut was 6-for-9 from the field for 17 points, Ryan Jann added 15 points, and Sam Willson had 10.
