LEWISTON, Maine — Firefighters are investigating what caused an early-morning apartment building fire in Lewiston that displaced about a dozen people.
The two-alarm fire started around 2 a.m. Friday at 168 Bartlett Street. No one was injured. The building houses multiple apartments.
Disaster responders from the Red Cross will meet with the 12 people affected, and provide food, clothing, emotional support, and emergency shelter as needed, according to Red Cross spokesman John Lamb.
Firefighters say the building is heavily damaged and may be condemned. At this time, investigators do not believe the fire is suspicious.
Firefighters say this is the second time in two days they have responded to a fire at this building. There was a minor electrical fire Thursday, which investigators do not believe is related to Friday’s fire.
Firefighters also say they have had numerous problems with this building in the past.
This neighborhood in Lewiston has seen several apartment building fires over the past two years.
