PORTLAND, Maine — The Portland Police Department announced on Friday afternoon that a fugitive wanted in connection with the death of a local man has been caught in Minnesota.

Abdirahman Haji-Hassan, 23, was arrested in Minneapolis by the U.S. Marshals Violent Crimes Task Force on Dec. 19, according to an announcement issued by Portland police Lt. James Sweatt.

Haji-Hassan was charged as a fugitive from justice for what police say was the Nov. 21 homicide of Portland resident Richard Lobor.

Lobor was visiting 214 Brighton Ave., Apt. 4, when he was shot in an incident reported at 9:05 p.m., police said at the time. Police have not said publicly what they believe the relationship between the two men may have been or what circumstances led to the shooting.

Haji-Hassan has waived extradition and arrangements are being made to transport him back to Maine.

Portland police have been working with the Maine attorney general’s office on the case, Sweatt said Monday.
