LINCOLN – Douglas “Doug” Paul Dill, 73, died December 31, 2014 at a Lincoln hospital
following a short illness. He was born on December 13, 1941, in Lincoln,
ME. He is the son of Merle B. and Maria (Bishop) Dill.
Doug graduated from Mattanawcook Academy in 1960. He enlisted in the
Army in September of 1960, serving three years including a year and a half
in Korea. After he married his high school sweetheart, Norma (Briggs) Dill,
they moved to Seymour, CT, where he worked for Sikorsky Aircraft helping
build helicopters destined to carry the President, something he was very
proud of. In 1970, Doug and Norma returned home to Lincoln to raise their
family. Through the years he worked for several local paper mills, service
stations, the Lincoln Water District and then the Sanitary District, which he
retired from in 2000.
Doug was an avid hunter and fisherman with a special knack for enticing
salmon to bite at “Dobsie” Lake, and for shooting late season bucks, often
on Thanksgiving Day. He had a passion for cooking but rarely followed a
written recipe. He preferred to add ingredients according to taste, never
cooking a dish the same way twice. Some might be surprised to know that
Doug also enjoyed dancing, and that he was often at the center of the
dance floor during gatherings with friends and family.
He was especially passionate about guns and shooting and was member of
the Orrington Rod & Gun Club, where he spent countless hours and had
many close friends. He often spent Wednesdays traveling the area to visit
his favorite local gun shops where he enjoyed the camaraderie of the
“guys”.
Doug leaves his wife of 51 years, Norma (Briggs) Dill of Lincoln; his
daughters, Lorraine Fairfield and her husband Bill of Santa Rosa, CA,
Jennifer Ouellette and husband Scott of Summerville, SC, and son Richard
Dill and wife Kelley (Vose) Dill of Milford, ME; grandchildren Andrew and
Scott Polk, Kassidy and Zackary Dill, and two step-grandchildren, Billy and
Nicholas Fairfield. He leaves a brother Merle “Buzzy” Dill and wife Delores
“Dolly” Dill of Lincoln, ME, a brother in law, Edward Briggs of Franklin, NH,
and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Jean Morrison,
brother in law Daniel Morrison, sister in law Marjorie (Walker) Briggs, two
nieces and a nephew.
Friends may call January 4 from 1-4 pm Sunday at Clay Funeral Home, 7
Lee St, Lincoln, ME. Memorial service and burial will take place on a date
to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations in Doug’s name may be
made to the Lincoln Community Recreational Center Trust Fund, 63 Main
St., Lincoln, ME 04457.

he said: “I did it my way.”
