FARMINGTON, Maine — Nick Hilton tossed in a game-high 22 points to lead the University of Maine-Farmington Beavers to a 67-60 men’s basketball victory over the Colby College Mules Saturday.
Uriah Forest-Bulley, Pet Sumner and Jimmie Chaisson netted 10 points apiece for the University of Maine-Farmington (3-6).
Ryan Jann’s 18-point, nine-rebound effort led Colby College of Waterville (6-5). Sam Willson (6 rebounds) scored 14 points and Luke Westman added 11.
UMFK wins two
At Saint John, New Brunswick, on Saturday, Mauro Vicic scored 25 points to help UMaine-Fort Kent hold off Crandall 84-75 in the second annual Can-Am Classic.
UMFK saw its lead evaporate late in the third quarter as Crandall came back to tie it at 62, but a Vicic 3-pointer from the wing ended the run and got the Bengals back on track.
UMFK had to play much of the game without point guard Qaadir Ali who battled foul trouble, but a fine performance by Marquis Glenn filled the void as he finished with 17 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals.
Joe McCloskey added 20 points and 11 rebounds for UMFK.
On Sunday, UMFK beat UNB Saint John 90-66 behind a 29-point, 17-rebound effort by McCloskey. Vicic added 15 points, Rioux had 13 and Ali had 12 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds. Glenn added 11 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals.
Bates 72, Southern Vermont 67
At Bennington, Vermont, on Saturday, Graham Safford had 16 points and six assists while Marcus Delpeche collected 15 points, a career-high 15 rebounds and three steals for Bates in the victory.
Bates (8-2) outrebounded the Mountaineers 42-28. Billy Selmon added 14 points.
Safford has now scored 998 points in his Bates career. He will look to become the 31st player in team history to score 1,000 on Tuesday, when the Bobcats host Brandeis.
Deshawn Hamlet led the Mountaineers (7-3) with 18 points.
Bowdoin 76, USM 61
At Brunswick on Sunday, John Swords recorded a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds to lead Bowdoin by the University of Southern Maine.
Bryan Hurley chipped in with 17 points, eight rebounds and six assists for Bowdoin (7-3). Lucas Hausman had 14 points and Matt Palecki posted 12.
Jacob Littlefield scored a game-high 23 points for USM (3-8).
Women’s Basketball
Colby 56, UM-Farmington 49
At Farmington on Saturday, the Mules built a 10-point halftime lead en route to a win over the Beavers.
Mia Diplock paced Colby College of Waterville (8-2) with 14 points and Carylanne Wolfington registered a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, along with four steals. Brooke Chandor posted 12 points and eight rebounds.
Elizabeth Ferry led a balanced effort for the University of Maine-Farmington (3-5) with 11 points and five rebounds. Meghan Smith notched a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds and added five steals and two assists.
Kennadi Grover added 10 points and five rebounds.
UMFK posts two wins
At Saint John, New Brunswick, on Saturday, Ericka Saucier rallied UMaine-Fort Kent in the fourth quarter to beat Crandall 61-53.
Saucier finished with 22 points and 14 rebounds while Sam Carapellucci chipped in with 14 points and 16 rebounds. Danielle Carrillo added 16 points and Kayla Richards contributed 7 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists.
On Sunday, UMFK beat the UNB Saint John Seawolves 68-56.
Carapellucci sparked UMFK with 24 points and 13 rebounds. Saucier added 21 points and 14 rebounds.
Christie Van Steeg scored 18 for UNB.
Bates 76, UNE 72
At Lewiston on Saturday, Molly Brown poured in 31 points, including 19 in the second half, to lead Bates by No. 22 nationally ranked University of New England.
Allie Coppola chipped in with 18 points and six boards for Bates (8-4), and Kristin Calvo contributed eight assists.
Lauren Hayden led UNE (5-2) with 19 points and 10 10 rebounds. Kelly Coleman added 14 points and eight rebounds, while Alanna Vose also scored 14, including 11 in the second half. Meghan Gribbin passed out six assists.
Bowdoin 75, RIC 56
At Brunswick on Sunday, Sara Binkhorst matched her career high with 32 points to lead Bates by Rhode Island College.
Shannon Brady added 10 points and seven rebounds for Bowdoin (10-2) while Kate Kerrigan scored eight points with four rebounds and three steals. Megan Phelps pitched in eight points off the bench for Bowdoin.
Jess Korzec led RIC (2-9) with 16 points and eight rebounds.
