BANGOR, Maine — Josh Warren, a former University of Southern Maine tennis player and Colby College assistant coach, has been selected as the first head coach of the Husson University women’s tennis team, which begins its first season this fall.
“I am excited to lead a tennis program in this region,” Warren said in a news release. “There has been no collegiate tennis in Maine north of Waterville for a number of years. I am looking forward to being a part of the team at Husson University.”
Warren, a 2006 Hermon High School graduate, has spent summers as a professional tennis instructor at Sankaty Head Golf and Tennis Club in Nantucket, Massachusetts. He currently serves in the same role at Armstrong Tennis Center in Hampden.
Warren also was an assistant men’s and women’s tennis coach at Colby from 2012-14, and he was an assistant men’s and women’s coach at Ithaca College in New York from 2010-11.
As a player at USM, Warren had a combined singles/doubles record of 71-32 and helped lead the team to its first NCAA Division III National Tournament appearance in 2007.
He earned a bachelor’s degree at USM and a master’s degree at Ithaca.
“We are excited to have Josh join our staff as head women’s tennis coach. His experience and skills make him a great choice to lead this new program,” Husson Director of Athletics Frank Pergolizzi said in the release. “I am confident that Husson women’s tennis will quickly reach the level of excellence that is associated with Husson athletics.”
According to the release, Warren is the founder and developer of Integrated Tennis, which implements time-honored and modern mind/body techniques combining Western Sport Psychology with Eastern Yoga, to run workshops, presentations and individual sessions for coaches and athletes looking to take their performance to the next level.
