FARMINGTON — Colby-Sawyer held the University of UMaine-Farmington to a 14-of-52 (27 percent) shooting effort from the floor to earn a 74-45 women’s basketball victory Friday night.
Kelsey Cahill paced Colby-Sawyer (6-5) with 16 points and Lexi Iannone added 15.
Lindsay Ranquist led UMF (4-7) with 9 points.
Colby-Sawyer outrebounded UMF 52-35.
NEC 80, Thomas 45
At Waterville, New England College rolled to a 31-point halftime lead and improved to 9-2.
Taylor Burgess recorded 18 points and 11 rebounds to pace the winners while Kayla Lawlor added 15 points.
Jordan Agger-Barnes led Thomas (1-10) with 13 points and 7 rebounds.
Colby 76, Wesleyan 54
At Waterville, Colby won for the 10th time this year and exploded for 49 first-half points on the way to a the win over Wesleyan University in both team’s New England Small College Athletic Conference opener.
Colby is now 10-2 and Wesleyan is 5-6.
The Mules were 8-for-11 from 3-point range in the opening half. Brooke Chandor went 4-for-5 on her 3-point attempts and scored all 12 of her points in the first 20 minutes. Colby had more than 30 points in the first 10 minutes of the half. The biggest lead was 23 points after a Haley Driscoll 3-point play with 22 seconds left.
Mia Diplock led all scorers with 20 points and three steals for the Mules. Driscoll was 6-for-9 from the field and finished with 14 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Nolan had 15 points, while MaryKate Caverly had eight points, five rebounds, and five assists.
Danielle Gervacio led Wesleyan with 12 points and three steals.
Men’s Basketball
Colby-Sawyer 72, UMF 55
At Farmington, Colby-Sawyer’s Zach Bean nailed four 3-pointers on his way to a game-high 16 points. Wol Monjong added 14 for the winners (7-3).
Nick Hilton recorded a double-double with a team-high 14 points and game-high 11 rebounds for UMF (3-8).. Freshman Michael Atkins set a new career high with 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting in 16 minutes.
Colby 82, Wesleyan 80
At Middletown, Conn., Sam Willson had a collegiate-high 26 points and Chris Hudnut finished Colby open New England Small College Athletic Conference play with a win at Wesleyan University.
Colby is now 8-5 and Wesleyan is 10-3.
Luke Westman and Connor O’Neil also had big games for the Mules, who trailed 44-37 at halftime. Westman was 6-for-7 from the field for 17 points and five assists, while O’Neil shot 4-for-7 from 3-point range to score 12 and add four assists.
Joseph Kuo had 19 points and BJ Davis added 16 for Wesleyan.
Bowdoin 77, Conn. College 48
At New London, Conn., Bowdoin improved to 9-3 with the victory while the Camels slipped to 7-5.
Junior Lucas Hausman poured in a game-high 22 points for the visitors, shooting 9-for-16 from the field and 3-for-3 from the foul line. Senior Keegan Pieri chipped in with 21 points and 11 boards en route to a double double. Senior center John Swords was 6-for-8 from the field and finished with 12 points and 10 boards for the Polar Bears.
Connecticut College sophomore forward Zuri Pavlin finished with 13 points and seven rebounds for the hosts.
