PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — A Presque Isle man who barricaded himself inside his home and threatened to harm himself and his girlfriend was indicted on Friday by the Aroostook County grand jury.
James Shaw, 25, was indicted on charges of aggravated assault, domestic violence terrorizing, criminal mischief and obstructing government prosecution stemming from the Oct. 6 incident.
According to Presque Isle Police Chief Matt Irwin, Shaw was at his Skyway Street home with his girlfriend. He had barricaded the door and was threatening to cut and kill the woman if he saw any police presence.
Irwin said he quickly secured an arrest warrant for Shaw stemming from an earlier incident and a search warrant for his home. Both warrants stemmed from an incident one week before, when officers responded to a domestic violence call at the home. Shaw was wanted on aggravated assault charges.
Armed with the warrants, the state police tactical unit broke down the door of the home and found Shaw and his girlfriend unharmed. Shaw was arrested without further incident, and a large knife was recovered from the scene, Irwin said.
