FARMINGTON — Jimmie Chaisson nailed a 3-point jump shot with nine seconds left in the game to lift the University of Maine-Farmington past New England College 80-78 in men’s basketball action Saturday.
With 37 seconds left, C.J. Capilets made a clutch 3-pointer to give NEC a 78-77 lead. UMF’s Pet Sumner then missed a 3-pointer and on the rebound a NEC defender knocked the ball out-of-bounds. On the inbounds play, Logan Nichols passed to his right to Chaisson, who fired the game-winner.
Nick Hilton scored a game-high 24 points and Uriah Forest-Bulley added 20 for UMF (4-8).
Dezron Wilson paced NEC (6-7) with 19 points.
Berkeley 81, UMFK 67
At Fort Kent on Sunday, Berkeley College outscored the University of Maine-Fort Kent 30-14 during the first 10 minutes of the second half to take the victory.
Berkeley had five players in double figures led by Messiah Merritt’s 21 points and 5 assists. Kenton Chan-Man netted 19 points, while Stephon Jennings had 13 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.
UMFK’s Joe McCloskey had a huge second half with 15 points, finishing the game with 21.
Qaadir Ali led the Bengals with 22 points and Joe McCloskey scored 15 of his 21 points in the second half. James Givens had 8 points and 6 assists.
Colby 79, Conn. College 70
At New London, Conn., junior center Chris Hudnut poured in a game-high 24 points to lead the Colby by Connecticut College on Saturday.
Hudnut was 6-for-8 from the field and a perfect 12-for-12 from the foul line. Junior guard Luke Westman chipped in with 21 points, five boards and four assists for Colby (9-5). Ryan Jann finished with 14 points, while junior Sam Willson added 10 points and nine rebounds.
Lee Messier finished with a team-best 19 points for Conn. College (7-6).
UMD 64, USM 59
At Gorham, senior Jake Laga scored 22 points, including a 6-for-8 effort from 3-point range to lead the UMass Dartmouth by the University of Southern Maine Huskies Saturday.
UMD is now 7-6 and U SM is 3-10.
USM junior Jacob Littlefield led all scorers with 28 points. Sophomore Fred Knight added eight points and seven rebounds.
Colby-Sawyer 88, Thomas 58
At Waterville, Peter Donato scored 18 points and grabbed 9 rebounds to lead Colby-Sawyer (8-3) by Thomas (5-8).
Eric Westbrooks paced Thomas with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Justin Murray added 10 points.
Wesleyan 77, Bowdoin 62
At Middletown, Conn., Bowdoin saw its five-game winning streak snapped on Saturday afternoon.
Lucas Hausman continued his hot play with a game-high 26 points for Bowdoin (9-4. The Cardinals (11-3) countered with five players in double digits, including 18 points apiece from Jack Mackey and Joe Edmonds.
Women’s Basketball
UNE 81, Nichols 48
At Dudley, Mass., senior Kelly Coleman posted a double-double with game highs of 23 points and 11 rebounds to help the University of New England defeat Nichols College on Saturday.
Coleman was 9 of 14 from the floor and 5 of 5 at the free throw line en route to her 17th career double-double. Junior Alanna Vose supported with 20 points for UNE (8-2) while Sam MacDonald added 11 and Alicia Brown had 10.
For Nichols (4-8), Amber Litwinko led the way with 15 points.
Conn. College 62, Colby 61
At Waterville, trailing 48-41, Connecticut College used a 17-3 run to go ahead for good and then held on for the win over Colby Saturday.
Both teams are now 10-3 overall.
Mairead Hynes had 13 of her team-high 18 points in the second half to help the Camels pull out the win.
Colby was playing without leading scorer and rebounder Carylanne Wolfington, who was injured in Friday’s game with Wesleyan University.
Mia Diplock had a team-high 18 points, while Haley Driscoll added 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists. MaryKate Caverly finished with 11 points and Brooke Chandor had 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Bowdoin 75, Wesleyan 52
At Brunswick, Bowdoin extended its win streak to 10 games Saturday.
Bowdoin (13-2) was led by Megan Phelps, who recorded 17 points and seven rebounds. Sara Binkhorst added 16 points for the Polar Bears while Shannon Brady recorded 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Jackie Browne paced Wesleyan (5-7) with 13 points.
UMD 77, USM 68
At Gorham, sophomore Bri Hochwarter scored a team-high 24 points off of the bench to help the UMass Dartmouth Corsairs beat the University of Southern Maine Huskies Saturday.
The Corsairs (9-3) finished out the game strong from the free throw line making 9-of-12 from the free throw line for the win.
Junior Megan Pelletier paced USM (6-7) with 32 points and 11 rebounds. Senior Stephanie Gallagher added 12 points and four assists.
Colby-Sawyer 77, Thomas 32
At Waterville, Colby-Sawyer rolled out to a 27-point halftime lead and improved to 7-5.
Jessica Shenkel paced Colby-Sawyer (7-5) with 12 point while Ashleigh Gagne scored 13 to lead Thomas (1-11).
St. Joseph’s 72, Albertus Magnus 61
At New Haven, Conn., junior center Morgan Cahill netted a game-high 22 points with six rebounds and a pair of blocked shots to lead Saint Joseph’s to the win on Saturday.
Sophomore guard Abbie Eastman added 10 points with five assists, four boards and a pair of steals for St. Joe’s (8-3) and freshman forward Norma Waggett had 10 points.
Kelsey Pendagast paced the Falcons (5-8) with 15 points and 17 rebounds.
