CASCO, Maine — A Bridgton woman was killed and two others were seriously injured in a head-on collision Wednesday afternoon on Route 302, also known as Roosevelt Trail.

Update: Second person dies from injuries in Casco crash

Killed in the crash was Carol Honaberger, 70, who was driving a 2000 Dodge Caravan west on Route 302, Capt. Donald Goulet of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

Seriously injured was Honaberger’s 81-year-old husband, Dale Honaberger, who was taken to Bridgton Memorial Hospital by Casco Rescue.

Goulet said the couple’s golden retriever therapy dog suffered broken legs in the accident and was taken for emergency treatment by local animal control officers.

Also injured in the crash was Allen Estes, 66, of Standish, who was heading east in a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox, Goulet said. Estes suffered broken bones and other injuries that were not considered life-threatening, the captain said.

According to Goulet, the collision happened at 1:50 p.m. near Watkins Flats. The sheriff’s department was assisted at the scene by Casco fire and emergency medical personnel and LifeFlight of Maine.

Goulet said the cause of the crash is under investigation by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team.

Carol Homaberger’s next of kin were notified of her death, he said.
