STANDISH, Maine — Standish officials on Tuesday rejected a proposal to enact new gun restrictions in town.
A proposed ordinance would have created new rules for shooting ranges. The proposal came after complaints over shooting at a local gravel pit.
Before the vote, residents said the ordinance would have unfairly restricted law-abiding gun owners who aren’t bothering anyone.
One person who spoke out is Jeffery Dolloff, who survived an attack more than five years ago.
“The way this is written, any one of these guys and their wives — if they don’t own a property, and somebody came into their house — they don’t have a legal right to defend themselves in the town of Standish,” Dolloff said.
