CASCO, Maine — A second person has died as a result of injuries suffered during a two-vehicle crash on Route 302 Wednesday afternoon.
Carol Honaberger, 70, of Bridgton, died as a result of the crash, which took place just before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday on Route 302, also known as Roosevelt Trail, near Watkins Flats.
Late Wednesday night, her passenger, 81-year-old Dale Honaberger, died of injuries suffered in the crash, according to a release from Capt. Don Goulet of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
A 2000 Dodge Caravan driven by Carol Honaberger was traveling west on Route 301 at approximately 1:50 p.m. when it crashed into a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Allen Estes, 66, of Standish, according to Goulet.
Estes suffered broken bones and other non-life-threatening injuries and was released from the scene of the crash.
The Honabergers’ golden retriever therapy dog was taken by animal control officers for treatment of broken legs.
The crash is being reconstructed by the sheriff’s office and the cause remains under investigation.
