GORHAMThe University of Southern Maine Huskies baseball team and coaching staff, led by Ed Flaherty, will hold its 25th annual Winter Clinic 9 a.m.-noon on Sunday, Feb. 22, and its Advanced Clinic 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, at the Costello Sports Complex Fieldhouse. The Winter Clinic is for players in grades 3-8 who will participate in stations that teach the fundamentals of hitting, base running, pitching, infield play and outfield play. Players should wear appropriate attire, including sneakers, and bring their own equipment. Fee is $50. The Advanced Clinic is for players in grades 9-12 who have aspirations to play intercollegiate baseball, and will be limited to 40 participants, for $100 per person. Pitching, hitting and defensive play along with testing of running speed and arm strength in the morning; games in the afternoon. BASKETBALL

BANGOR — Husson University will hold 15, one-day basketball clinics throughout the school year for boys and girls in grades 3-8. The clinics will focus on skill development such as ballhandling, footwork, shooting, passing, along with other basic skills and concepts. Clinics will be held 9-11:30 a.m. on the following dates: Mondays, Jan. 19, Feb. 16, April 20; Tuesdays, Feb. 17, April 21; Wednesdays, Feb. 18, April 22; Thursday, April 23; and Friday, March 6. ORONO — The Friends of UMaine Women’s Basketball group is organizing a bus trip to the Black Bears’ 1 p.m. game at New Hampshire on Sunday, March 1. The bus will leave Old Town at 7:30 a.m. and make stops in Bangor and Newport. If needed, other stops will be added. The cost of the trip is $50 per person which includes motorcoach service and a ticket to the game. SOUTHWEST HARBOR — Registration open to girls and boys junior high and high school basketball teams for the 23rd annual Great Harbor Shoot-Out basketball tournament March 20-23, at area gyms on Mount Desert Island, Trenton and Ellsworth. Last year, nearly 90 teams participated in the fundraiser for Harbor House and area youth programs. There will be four divisions for junior high and high school girls and boys teams. Volunteers are needed to help with the various event activities, and sponsors are welcome. Sponsorships may be mailed to Harbor House at P.O. Box 836, Southwest Harbor 04679. HOCKEY

BANGOR — The Maine Junior Black Bears are taking registrations for Learn to Play and Atoms teams. Learn-to-Play sessions are 5:30-6:30 p.m. Thursdays and 8:30-9:30 a.m. Sundays at Sawyer Arena in Bangor with former professional hockey players and USA Hockey certified coaches. Rental equipment is available. Atoms are co-ed players that participate in the Learn-to-Play program and are ready to try their skills in team play with a USA Hockey-certified hockey coach and play four cross-ice games against Atoms from Maine Junior Black Bears and Brewer. There is no scorekeeping during Atoms games. Games are on Saturday or Sunday and are rotated between the Alfond Arena, Orono, Sawyer Arena and Penobscot Ice Arena, Brewer. POWER LIFTING

BAR HARBORThe second annual Mount Desert Island YMCA’s Bar Bender’s Association Powerlifting Competition will be held 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, at the MDI YMCA. Contestants are grouped by age, gender and weight class, and compete on two classic powerlifting moves: flat bench and dead lift. Anyone ages 14 to adult is encouraged to sign up. SKIING

BANGOR — Bangor Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registrations for its 2015 Ski and Snowboard lessons at Hermon Mountain. Session 2 will be Feb. 3-March 3, 4:30-6:30 p.m. Each offers four, one-hour lessons and up to an hour of free ski time. Transportation to and from the mountain is participant’s responsibility. Fees for the ski program are $75 for a Bangor resident, and $85 for a nonresident per session. Fees for snowboarding are $95 for Bangor residents, and $105 for nonresidents, per session. SLED DOG RACING

GREENVILLE — The Wilderness Sled Dog Committee has decided to shorten the 100-mile race slated for Feb. 7 to 66 miles due to safety issues. The race starts at 9 a.m. and will proceed through lands owned by race partners Plum Creek Timber Co. and Appalachian Mountain Club. The race will travel out of Leisure Life Resort on Lily Bay Road in Greenville, through Moosehead Riders Snowmobile trails to outer Scammon Road and to what is known as the 100 Mile Wilderness. The trail will travel along trails maintained by AMC and out to West Branch Pond Camps and return to Leisure Life Resort to a bonfire and spectators. There will be awards and a dinner at Leisure Life. There also will be a 30-mile race that starts at 10 a.m. and family activities. SKOWHEGAN — The 2015 Skowhegan Youth Wrestling Tournament for students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade will be held Sunday, March 15, at Skowhegan Area High School.
