BATH, Maine — A 32-year-old man was charged with felony burglary Friday afternoon after allegedly breaking into a Ridge Road home and confronting a resident before leading officers on a chase into Brunswick.
Nicholas Mitchell, whose last known address was in Bath, was being held Friday afternoon on $10,000 cash bail, according to Bath police Lt. Robert Savary.
Officers were called to the home after a 39-year-old female resident allegedly caught him inside at around 2 p.m., Savary said.
“There was a brief altercation between the female resident and Mr. Mitchell, after which he fled the scene on foot,” he said.
Bath police officers, with the assistance of a tracking dog and Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office Cpl. Ian Alexander, pursued Mitchell to Bridge Street, just over the West Bath line in Brunswick, where Brunswick police joined the chase.
The alleged victim then identified Mitchell, Savary said.
Mitchell is charged with Class B felony burglary to a residence, but Savary said he was allegedly found with knives in his backpack, so that charge could be elevated to a Class A felony.
Mitchell was scheduled to be taken from the Bath police station to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset later Friday afternoon.
