AUGUSTA, Maine — A local man was arrested Friday and charged with possessing child pornography, according to the Maine State Police.
Randy Marquis, 41, was arrested at his home on Northern Avenue and taken to the Kennebec County Jail, according Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Marquis was released Friday on $350 cash bail, according to jail personnel.
Information about when he is scheduled to make his first court appearance was not available Saturday.
Acting on a tip, the Computer Crimes Unit went to Marquis’ home Friday and inspected his computer, McCausland said Saturday in a press release.
“An initial inspection of his computer showed hundreds of images of child pornography,” he said.
Marquis was charged with one count of possession of sexually explicit material of someone under the age of 12, a Class C crime. If convicted, he faces up to five years in jail and a fine of up to $5,000.
