OLD TOWN — Welcome To Housing, founded in October 2011, helps individuals, including veterans and families, as they transition from shelter programs in the Bangor region, to permanent housing by providing basic household items, donated through the community.
Between Sept. 1, 2012, and Sept. 30, 2013, Welcome To Housing donated more than $46,000 worth of home goods to people in need.
In 2015, Welcome To Housing will file with the Internal Revenue Service to become a free-standing 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
Welcome To Housing now works under the auspices of Adoptive and Foster Families of Maine in Old Town. As an all volunteer alliance, it has helped clients from more than 40 agencies.
Welcome To Housing is seeking those who might wish to volunteer for the agency. They are encouraged to attend meetings held at 5:30 p.m. the third Wednesday of each month in the 2nd floor conference room at Shaw’s Supermarket, 353 Main St., Bangor. Meeting dates are Feb. 18,
March 18, April 15, May 20, June 17,July 15,Aug. 19,Sept. 16,Oct. 21, ,Nov. 18,Dec. 16.
