HOWLAND, Maine — The attorney general’s office has determined a police shooting involving a Howland man and a state trooper last June was justified.

Dale Saucier, 36, was shot by State Trooper Benjamin Campbell on June 6 after the trooper responded to his home to check on his well-being.

According to Bangor Daily News archives, the shooting occurred shortly after the trooper arrived at Saucier’s residence. Campbell was near Saucier’s Water Street residence when Saucier called police.

According to a statement from the attorney general’s office, the trooper acted in defense of a woman at the residence and himself.

“The Attorney General’s conclusion is based on an extensive scene investigation, on interviews with numerous individuals, and on a review of all evidence made available,” the statement said.
