ROCKLAND, Maine — A Swanville woman was arrested this week after admitting to stealing more than $10,000 from her employer in Union, according to police.
Andrea M. Walsh, 43, who had worked as a bookkeeper and secretary for A & B Welding, was charged with theft.
The owner of the business noticed that Walsh had been writing extra paychecks to herself as well as writing payroll checks for her boyfriend, who did not work for the company, according to an affidavit filed in Rockland District Court by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
When confronted, Walsh initially denied any wrongdoing and claimed her boyfriend was doing work for the welding company, according to the affidavit. Eventually, however, she broke down and admitted to the thefts, according to the affidavit.
Police reported that $10,485 was stolen from the company.
Walsh was taken to the Knox County Jail in Rockland. She made an initial appearance in court Wednesday afternoon when bail was set at $2,000 cash.
