ROCKPORT, Maine — Early next month, a Massachusetts appraisal firm will start a review of certain Rockport properties that will lead to updated values throughout the community.
The town has contracted with KRT Appraisal of Haverhill, Massachusetts, for $44,000 to undertake a statistical update of its property assessments, said Rockport Assessor Kerry Leichtman.
This will not be full-blown revaluation in which appraisers inspect the interior and exterior of each building.
The company will review legitimate sales during the past two years and go out and inspect those properties, he said. The inspection will be limited to the exteriors of the properties, according to Leichtman.
Changes in value to those properties will then be extrapolated across the community. The new values will be implemented at the time of the commitment in the summer.
The last full revaluation in Rockport occurred in 2005.
