BANGOR, Maine — A local woman escaped major injury Thursday night after being struck by a vehicle on Main Street, according to Bangor Police Sgt. Tim Cotton.

Sherry Small, 36, was crossing Main Street at Union Street when she was struck by a vehicle driven by Philip Guerrette, 77, of Washburn, shortly before 6 p.m., according to Cotton.

Guerrette was traveling toward downtown on Main Street at the time of the incident. Cotton said Small was in a crosswalk and was wearing dark clothing, and Guerrette, who had a green light, did not see her.

Small suffered a minor ankle injury and was brought to Eastern Maine Medical Center for observation, the sergeant said. Signs of impairment weren’t visible from Guerrette or Small.

It’s not likely any charges will be filed in the incident, Cotton said.
