GLENBURN, Maine — Officials are investigating an early-morning fire that leveled a Misty Way home, Glenburn Fire Lt. Chris Lavoie said.

Lavoie was the first to arrive on scene at the split-level raised ranch shortly after 4 a.m., and heavy fire was showing from all four sides of the building.

Lavoie said a family of four, two adults and two children, managed to get out safely and were not injured.

Lavoie said crews did not have any issues with water freezing up due to cold temperatures, but with no water system at the scene, water had to be trucked in by tanker trucks.

“We had to call in several different departments so we could get a lot of water,” Lavoie said.

Firefighters responded from eight different towns – Bangor, Orono, Hudson, Glenburn, Bradford, Corinth, Levant and Hermon.

Lavoie said working smoke detectors and an escape plan were vital in preventing injury.

“The family within the last week had just went around and checked smoke detectors and came up with a fire escape plan and a meeting place and that proved to work out for them today,” he said. “I really want to stress checking smoke detectors and having an escape plan.”

While the fire does not appear to be suspicious, the state fire marshal’s office is investigating a cause.
