ROCKLAND, Maine — The Democrats have scheduled a caucus to nominate a candidate for the Maine House District 93 seat vacated by former Rep. Elizabeth Dickerson of Rockland.

The Democrats will gather at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at Rockland City Hall. Registered Democrats from Rockland and Owls Head can attend and vote.

Gov. Paul LePage has set the special election for Tuesday, March 10, for residents of the two communities.

Four Democrats have announced their intention to seek the nomination — Pinny (Anne) Beebe Center, a former county commissioner; Steve Roberts, Regional School Unit 13 board chairman; Carol Bachofner, an RSU 13 board member; and Valli Geiger, a city councilor elected in November. Geiger said she would remain on the council if elected.

The Republicans announced last week they would hold a district-wide caucus at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2, at the Tradewinds Motor Inn in Rockland.

The announced Republican candidate is James Kalloch, who operates Penobscot Bay Ferry and Transport out of Rockland and who lost narrowly (1,744 to 1,612) to Dickerson in November.

Also announced is Shawn Levasseur, who is a Libertarian activist but an unenrolled candidate.

Unenrolled candidates have until Feb. 9 to file their nomination papers with the Maine Secretary of State.
