WATERVILLE, Maine — A local man is behind bars on an aggravated assault charge after allegedly choking and assaulting his girlfriend, police said.
In addition to the Class B felony charge of aggravated assault, Donrrell Garner, 24, is also accused of obstructing the report of a crime and criminal mischief, Waterville Deputy Chief Charles Rumsey said.
Police were called by the woman around 6:30 p.m., and she had gone to a neighbor’s home after the assault had taken place, Rumsey said.
A verbal argument between Garner and the woman became physical to the point where he allegedly put his hands around her neck and choked her and punched her in the face, Rumsey said.
Garner also broke the woman’s phone when she attempted to contact police.
After interviewing both parties, police arrested Garner. He is being held without bail at the Kennebec County Jail.
