STANDISH, Maine — A Domino’s Pizza delivery driver suffered head and facial injuries after he lost control of his sport utility vehicle and crashed into a utility pole in Standish just after 10:30 p.m. Friday.

Jason Merrifield, 28, of Standish was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland after the accident on Route 113. He was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s office, and the airbag deployed.

The utility pole was severed in half in the accident. Route 113 was reduced to one lane for four hours while Central Maine Power Co. crews replaced the pole. Police said Merrifield may have been driving too fast for the icy road conditions on Route 113 at the time of the accident.

The Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Merrifield had significant front-end damage.
