BRASSUA TOWNSHIP, Maine — A Windham woman is in critical condition after a snowmobile accident in Piscataquis County on Thursday, officials said.
Ashley Morton, 24, was riding on the Route 66 trail when she failed to negotiate a turn, struck a tree and was ejected from the sled, according to Cpl. John MacDonald of the Maine Warden Service.
Two separate groups of riders stayed with Morton until Rockwood Rescue could get to the scene, according to MacDonald.
Morton was transported to a Greenville hospital before being taken by LifeFlight to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor with a head injury, the corporal said.
The crash remains under investigation.
