BIDDEFORD, Maine — The Department of Environmental Protection is working to clean up 450 gallons of fuel that spilled into a street drain.

The spill happened about 1:30 p.m. at the Dead River Shell Station on Route 1.

Fire officials say the fuel went through a manhole cover and down a drain.

They say a malfunctioning diesel pump may have caused the spill.
