“We started a Facebook page to get the word out,” said Nurse Jamie Perry of Winterport, who with her mother Theresa Wells of Winterport and cousin Morgan Greenlaw of New York City, is organizing an event to benefit her aunt Robin Greenlaw of Hampden. The benefit, will be held 3-7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, at the Brewer Eagles Club, 22 Atlantic Ave. in Brewer.
Robin Greenlaw, 56, who has been ill for nearly a year is undergoing treatment for small bowel cancer in Galveston, Texas. The event will help defray medical costs and the cost of travel to and from Texas, Perry said.
Greenlaw, who has worked for more than 20 years in the office at Penobscot Pediatrics in Bangor, has come to the point where her work-related healthcare benefits have been used up, Perry said.
“It has been quite a struggle,” Perry said. “I has been an emotional roller coaster.” But what has impressed Perry and her aunt the most, she said, is the outpouring of generosity and support from co-workers, family, friends of the family, and even from people the family has never met. “People have stepped forward in big and generous ways.”
More than anything, her aunt wants people to know how much she appreciates the support.
The benefit for Robin Greenlaw will feature music by the Allison Ames Band, Wheeldrive, The Prairie Dogs, Little Rodeo and R.E.O. and Friends; magic by Hal Meyers, who also will serve as emcee; a 50/50 raffle; a silent auction; and food. Admission is by a suggested donation of $10.
Auctions items will include a three-night stay at the Five-Star Diamond Aria Las Vegas Sky Suites complete with two tickets to Cirque de Soleil and a $250 food and beverage credit; several weekend getaway packages in Maine and New York City; four Club Level Boston Bruins tickets for the March 5 game against the Calgary Flames and tickets for the March 10 match-up with the Senators; high-end jewelry from London Jewelers in New York City; four tickets, center ice, to a University of Maine hockey game; a handmade afghan; a handmade quilt; one-night stays at Nordic Village Resorts in Jackson, New Hampshire, Fireside Inn and Suites in Portland, Fisherman’s Wharf Inn in Boothbay Harbor, Bluenose Inn in Bar Harbor, and Best Western White House Inn in Hampden; an autographed baseball from Joe Girandi, head coach of the Yankees; a collection of Longaberger baskets in hard-to-find styles; and a two-night stay at The New York Palace hotel in Manhattan.
The event is child-friendly, organizers said.
