FREEPORT, Maine — A Harpswell man escaped injury Tuesday morning after his sport utility vehicle rolled over on Interstate 295, State Trooper Doug Cropper said.

Rodney Hoverson, 53, was heading south when he lost control around 9:30 a.m., Cropper said.

The trooper said Hoverson was in the passing lane around Mile 23 when he apparently went to adjust the radio in the vehicle and lost control.

Cropper said the SUV went into the snowy median and rolled onto its roof. Despite the roof of the vehicle caving in, Hoverson suffered only bumps and bruises and turned down a trip to the hospital.

The accident bottled up the morning commute on I-295, as troopers had to briefly shut down both lanes to remove the destroyed SUV, Cropper said. Traffic is now flowing again.

Hoverson was warned for distracted driving.
