BOSTON, Maine — Dylan Morang has been a New England Patriots fan for a long time.
While at Boston Children’s Hospital for spinal surgery, Morang and a few other patients created a video for the Patriots that wished them well in the upcoming Super Bowl. After the Patriots won another championship, Morang helped to produce another video — this one a congratulatory one.
Patriots player and new Super Bowl hero Malcolm Butler was so impressed with the videos that he made a stop at Boston Children’s Hospital to thank the young film producers.
Morang has been at the Boston hospital since Jan. 5. He is scheduled for another spinal fusion surgery on March 5, and his mother, Lisa Simmons, hopes that her 24-year-old son will be back in Rockland by mid-March.
Morang said last Friday morning that he was woken up by a nurse who asked if he had heard the exciting news — that Butler was coming to the hospital and wanted to meet the young people who had played a part in the videos.
Morang and a few other patients met with Butler in the Seacrest Studio — a radio and video production studio in the hospital that was created through the donation by television host and producer Ryan Seacrest.
“It was amazing,” Morang said of meeting Butler, who intercepted the final pass of the game to preserve the championship victory. “He is such a humble person.”
Butler told the young people that the initial video helped inspire the team.
Butler gave Morang a signed glove and signed photograph.
