ORLAND, Maine — A local man is behind bars after being arrested last week on multiple felony charges stemming from an alleged sexual assault at a local residence.
Roger E. Grindle, 29, is accused of burning a woman with a cigarette lighter and preventing her from leaving a dwelling on Front Ridge Road during the incident, which occurred overnight Jan. 31 into Feb. 1, according to documents filed in Hancock County Unified Criminal Court in Ellsworth.
An affidavit written by Maine State Police Trooper Bryan Creamer indicates Grindle also is accused of kicking and sexually assaulting the alleged victim, who is 18 years old.
Police were notified of the incident last week and questioned Grindle at the Bucksport Police Department, Creamer wrote in the affidavit. Grindle initially denied to police he touched the victim but said, despite claiming he didn’t really remember the incident, he may have pushed her, the document indicates.
Grindle was arrested Feb. 7 on charges of aggravated assault, gross sexual assault, domestic violence criminal threatening and criminal restraint. He was being held Thursday at Hancock County Jail in Ellsworth, according to jail officials.
On Monday, bail for Grindle was set at $5,000 cash or $50,000 surety along with conditions that, if he makes bail, he not use or possess alcohol or drugs, that he submit to random searches and testing and that he have no contact with the victim or her family. He is scheduled to appear in court on the charges at 8:30 a.m. on April 17.
