PORTLAND, Maine — Local police are investigating a pair of armed robberies that occurred within the last week, Lt. James Sweatt said in a statement Thursday.
The first robbery occurred on Friday, Feb. 6, and the second on Wednesday, according to Sweatt.
In the first incident, two women were walking near Lincoln Park when one was robbed at gunpoint, according to Sweatt.
The robber grabbed the purse of a 56-year-old woman while pointing the gun at her. A brief struggle ensued, but the woman surrendered her purse once she realized he was armed.
The suspect fled on foot and was seen entering a dark-colored sedan. He stands between 5’7’’ and 6 feet tall, has scruffy facial hair and a medium build.
On Wednesday evening, a woman walking on Clark Street was approached from behind by an armed man and robbed of her purse, Sweatt said. That suspect fled down the street with the purse.
The second robber is a black male who was wearing all black clothing with a scarf and black jacket. He has a slight build and is just under 6 feet tall.
Neither woman was injured and both suspects remain at large. Anyone with information on the robberies should call Portland police at 874-8575. Mobile phone users can text GOTCHA plus a message to 274637.
