NORTH WATERBORO, Maine — The Waterboro Fire Department says a fire at a North Waterboro home was caused by combustible materials stored too close to a heater.
The fire started just after midnight Monday at the home on Greenfield Road. Firefighters say no one was injured, and the family’s dog was rescued.
The state fire marshal’s office said the homeowner had been using additional space heaters to keep pipes from freezing, and that is what lead to the fire.
Firefighters say extreme cold temperatures, as well as snow and ice made the fire a challenge to fight.
