BRUNSWICK, Maine — A 23-year-old Brunswick man was charged with crimes including aggravated assault and terrorizing after allegedly threatening a group of people at his home early Saturday morning. He also was accused of cutting an 18-year-old woman with a 10-inch butcher knife and assaulting another man.
Police were called at 7:20 a.m. Saturday to the home of Matthew Mansir, who had reportedly stabbed someone in the hand, Brunswick Police Sgt. Paul Hansen said.
Five people who were with Mansir at the home reported that he had “just gone off” after a minor disagreement and threatened them, then used a 10-inch butcher knife to cut the hand of an 18-year-old Lisbon woman.
Witnesses told police that when some of the guests tried to restrain Mansir, he pushed a 22-year-old man to the ground.
“The injury, luckily, was minor,” Hansen said of the knife wound. “There was a whole lot of room for that to go bad.”
The alleged victims drove themselves to Mid Coast Hospital, according to Hansen.
Mansir was charged with aggravated assault, assault, terrorizing and reckless conduct with a weapon. He was held at Cumberland County Jail on $2,500 cash bail until a court appearance on Tuesday. Jail officials said Tuesday afternoon that Mansir had since been released.
