MARS HILL, Maine — A 33-year-old man wanted on domestic violence charges was found by police on Wednesday, allegedly hiding in the bathroom of a Mars Hill residence.

Karter Bell of Mars Hill was arrested by deputies from the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office after an incident involving a woman that occurred on Tuesday in Mars Hill, according to Sheriff Darrell Crandall.

Bell was charged with domestic violence assault, terrorizing, criminal threatening and criminal mischief.

The sheriff said information about the victim or details about the incident are not being released at this time.

Deputies began the criminal investigation on Tuesday and tried to find Bell late that day, but they were unsuccessful, said Crandall. Bell — who had found out he was being sought by law enforcement — was located Wednesday afternoon at an East Ridge Road residence, where he tried to hide, the sheriff said.

Bell was taken to the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton where he remains after a bail commissioner refused to set bail because of the nature of the incident, according to Crandall.

Bell will appear before a judge within 48 hours.

Deputies and a detective with the sheriff’s office were assisted by the Maine State Police.
