The Fort Kent Community High School girls and boys ski teams used strong performances behind Alexa Pelletier and David Roy to capture the Class C state titles after two days of events Monday and Tuesday in Presque Isle and Mars Hill.
Pelletier paced the Fort Kent girls by finishing second for skimeister honors, while Roy placed second in the boys skimeister, which is given to the top performer in all four events: two cross country (Nordic) races and two downhill (Alpine) races.
Pelletier recorded first-place finishes in the giant slalom (46.53 seconds) and slalom (42.46) while placing 24th in classical cross-country and 32nd in skate cross-country, both 5-kilometer races.
Roy finished 14th in classical cross-country and 13th in skate cross-country with a 21st in the giant slalom and 10th in the slalom.
The Fort Kent girls and boys teams also benefited from strong finishes by several competitors.
Olivia Martin finished 10th in the giant slalom, and Alisha Guimond placed seventh in the slalom. Katherine Prescott recorded a sixth in skate cross-country and Jordan Tanguay finished seventh in classical cross-country.
In the boys events, Fort Kent’s Carter Voisine placed second in the giant slalom, followed by teammates Joey Guimond (fifth) and Jonathan Haley (ninth). Voisine also earned a second place in the slalom.
Fort Kent’s Matthew Toussaint then earned a third in skate cross-country while teammate Christo Naranja finished ninth. Toussaint also recorded a third in classical cross-country and Naranja finished sixth.
Telstar of Bethel’s Gabi Stone won the skimeister award with a ninth in cross-country classical and seventh in skate along with an 11th in the giant slalom and 13th in slalom. Mountain Valley of Rumford’s Conner Woods captured the boys skimeister with 15th in classical cross-country and 19th in skate along with an 11th in giant slalom and ninth in slalom.
State champions also were crowned in Class B with Maranacook of Readfield winning the boys crown and Yarmouth capturing the girls title.
Camden Hills’ David Flint won the boys skimeister title, and Yarmouth’s Abby Condon won the girls crown.
